Through the Bathroom Window

So it’s been a really really REALLY long time coming, but the upstairs bathroom is finally finished and I am so excited to share it with you guys! If you’ll remember, we essentially stripped the entire 500ish square feet of our upstairs bare to the studs and added this second bathroom from scratch. You can re-read our initial plan here (Breakdown). I have almost zero “before” pictures of our upstairs because I really hated everything about it. I don’t have a single picture of  the area where the bathroom is now (up the stairs and to the left), but it used to house our desk and computers.

We shared some updates about permitting and our very slow progress in February (Murphy’s Law) and April (Work in Progress), but that’s pretty much the last that you’ve seen of the bathroom since. We shared our working vanity with you in August (Vanity Kills). Now, we have officially moved into the bathroom and it’s DONE (and by done, I mean it needs some caulk around the windows, and touch up paint on the doors, but it’s useable and pretty)! We’ll be sure to share more about our experience with tiling, configuring new fixtures in an old house, and more later, but for now, let’s just appreciate how lovely this bathroom is looking.

We chose a dramatic blue and white tile for the back wall of the shower, and a glass door to show it off. We went with the white penny tile on the other walls and the floor to allow the back wall to be the star (and because tiling a sloped shower pan is waaaaay easier with tiny tiles!). We went with oil rubbed bronze fixtures to add some drama and help ground all of the bright color happening on the doors and the vanity (both of which are painted in the same color, Milano Teal, and sealed with polycrylic). We went with classic white fixtures (sink, toilet, etc) and trim to match the penny tile in the shower. I love the hanging planters to add a bit of greenery (Boston ferns are non-toxic to animals and love humidity, perfect for our bathroom!). We also went with a HUUUUGE framed print on the wall above the toilet to help balance the drama of the shower wall on the opposite side. We are in love with that print! I’ll share a post later about why we chose to have it professionally framed even though it costs a fortune! Last, we added some fun touches, like bronze deer heads for towel holders (clearance aisle at Target!) and some pops of coral to tone down all of the cool colors in there and some woven elements like the hamper to add a little texture and dimension.

For those of you who are asking where things came from, here is a list of the fixtures, art, etc we used in here:
